The famous rap group N.W.A. really changed the face of the music industry in the 1980s, hitting at one of the peak moments for the MTV generation. The new movie STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON explores how Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube came together to make history. We already showed you the first red band trailer, which gave us an idea of what to expect from the highly-anticipated biopic. Now there’s a new trailer with even more of the story, and six new posters for you to check out (one above and five character posters below). In the movie O’Shea Jackson Jr. plays Ice Cube (who happens to be his father in real life), with Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre and Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E. Neil Brown Jr. stars as DJ Yella, Aldis Hodge plays MC Ren, and Paul Giamatti appears as manager Jerry Heller. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray. This honestly wasn’t a film I was terribly excited about when I originally heard about it, everything I’ve seen so far looks pretty great. Take a look for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these young men revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.
