It’s no secret the gang from Broken Lizard – Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske, and Kevin Heffernan – have been working on a follow-up to their 2002 cult classic SUPER TROOPERS for several years. Today, they made it officially official.
Along with a highly entertaining Reddit Ask Us Anything, the lads rolled out an Indiegogo campaign to get the film across the finish line:
We’ve been waiting for years to do this, and meow the time has come. Our mustaches are thick, furry, and authoritative. The script is written and we’re getting all antsy in our pantsy to start shooting. There’s just one problem:
While the studio has given us permission to make the sequel, and agreed to distribute it (at least in the USA and Canada), we need to fund the movie ourselves.
So this is how it works: if we’re able to raise at least $2,000,000 in the next month, we’ll be able to get to work on a barebones version of Super Troopers 2 this summer. But $2,000,000 is the bare minimum we’ll need to get into production.
We’ve got some big stuff in the script, and if we’re able to raise enough money, you’ll get to see all of it. The more we raise, the more amazing stuff we can put in the movie. More action, more cameos, more shenanigans, and fine, more Farva.
In simple terms, using Rodney “Rod” Farva’s lovely mug:
Because crowdfunding is just as much about the goodies as it is about funding the project, there are really fun perks that Broken Lizard have set up to potential donors, including personalized movie posters, a video shot on the set of SUPER TROOPERS 2 thanking the donor, tickets to the premiere of the film, and (my personal favorite) having all five of the Broken Lizard guys as your Groomsmen at your wedding. (Or someone’s else’s wedding. They don’t specify you can’t. So, I’m throwing it meowt there.)
Check out the Indiegogo page for the pitch video, all of the perks, and your chance to get a sequel to SUPER TROOPERS out into the world.
