When I talk about films you’re excited to see in 2015, CHAPPIE is one that still gets a lot of blank stares. The latest film from Neill Blomkamp has all of his signature visionary touches (see DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM), but might wind up being the most accessible to date.

The newest trailer not only shows audiences the emerging sentience of the rejected police force drone robot, but the project’s corrupt creator (Hugh Jackman) and the administrator who wants to keep artificial intelligence from gaining a foothold (Sigourney Weaver). Watch below and get excited.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

CHAPPIE, directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, and starring Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, with Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman, hits theaters March 6, 2015.
