Marvel’s ANT-MAN receives a new official poster ahead of tonight’s trailer release (Note: Bring your magnifying glass…)

Tonight, Marvel TV comes back with the debut of AGENT CARTER starring Hayley Atwell as the WWII super-spy and if seeing the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. and appearances by Tony Stark’s daddy are not enough for you, well Marvel has upped the ante and they will be debuting the very first trailer for the Peyton Reed directed ANT-MAN.  The film, which stars Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang.

Marvel, in a brilliant form of marketing and humor, has released the first official poster (not counting the SDCC poster) for the film and it consists of the title, lots of white space and small speck in the center.  Upon closer inspection, you can actually see that this is in fact Ant-Man in costume.  Highlighting the shrinking powers of the hero is fantastic.  With so much negative space on the poster, the small man in the middle forces the spectator to move closer for inspection.  This gets the audience talking and that’s important for this film.  A lot has been said about ANT-MAN and how it could possibly be Marvel’s first bomb, a sentiment that was also said about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (and will likely be said about most of their obscure products in the future until this Nostradamus-like prediction finally, if ever, rings true), but if they can get out in front and deliver a strong marketing campaign, this film should do well.  I honestly think that until Marvel actually delivers a truly bad film, they will continue to ride their wave of associated quality.  Being the follow-up to the next AVENGER‘s won’t hurt it either.

Ant-Man - Poster - 002

On top of the first poster, Entertainment Weekly has released the cover to their next issue which shows Paul Rudd in costume as the titular hero.  You can check that out below and be sure to pick up the new issue when it hits newsstands this week.
