DIVERGENT was a pretty successful Young Adult franchise starter film for Lionsgate, and pretty much propelled Shailene Woodley into that level of superstar status TWILIGHT did for Kristen Stewart and THE HUNGER GAMES did for Jennifer Lawrence. It did so well the sequel was pretty much decided on after opening day. Following the books of Veronica Roth, the next story is INSURGENT, though we now know Lionsgate has decided to follow in the tradition of both TWILIGHT and THE HUNGER GAMES by keeping the first film title as a pre-title to the second film’s label, calling this on THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT. In a way I wish they didn’t do that, as the Roth books had great stand alone titles, but Hollywood thinks they know best with this stuff. The second big screen outing finds Tris (Woodley) and Four (Theo James) picking up where the event s of DIVERGENT left off. Robert Schwentke (RED) takes over as director – Neil Burger did the first movie. The rest of the cast includes Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Rosa Salazar, Suki Waterhouse, Daniel Dae Kim, Emjay Anthony, and Keiynan Lonsdale. The new teaser trailer and poster keeps things pretty ambiguous, showing us what is obviously some sort of dream sequence, but more importantly showing Woodley’s new cropped hairdo. Take a look and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
