People headed to Dallas Comic Con’s FAN DAYS this coming weekend were originally looking forward to meeting WWE Wrestler Dave Bautista, hot off the heels of the amazing success of Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (officially the highest-grossing film of 2014), but he had to back out of his appearance due unknown film roles. Today we may at least know what at least one film role is. Word has it Dave has been cast in SKYFALL director Sam Mendes’ upcoming James Bond film, continuing Daniel Craig’s run as 007. In the currently untitled BOND 24, Bautista will play a henchman called “Hinx” who will tangle with Bond many times during the movie. . The film starts filming in December aimed at a November 6, 2015 release.  Latino Review got the scoop, and even included the desciption of what producers were looking for in the role given to Bautista.  Check that out here:

We are looking to follow in the tradition of JAWS and ODDJOB in finding an iconic baddy.

Hinx (Male, 30 – 45)

Ideally over 6 foot 2 inches. Hinx is the main henchman/assassin. We are looking for an imposing extremely physically fit actor. He has several fights with Bond and will have to have stunt training. He has to drive. We are looking for someone very unusual, possibly from a sports background.

Just reading that description, while the character of “Jaws” and “Oddjob” are referenced, it seems this may be more than just the average henchman type of role. It’s possible this could follow the same type of story that Tom Hardy’s Bane had in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, where what we thought was the villain turned out to be a pawn for a hidden enemy. Imagine James Bond going up against someone physically far superior, but still able to match wits with him. How great would that be? Dave Bautista is actually 6 ft 6, and I’ve seen him in person… dude is BIG. But seeing how he played Drax in GUARDIANS, as a sort of analytical tough guy, I’m hoping this new role is something unexpected. His experience as a wrestler should serve him well in fight scenes, and he’s definitely one of the cooler names to get attached to a recent Bond film. There was also a recent announcement that BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL‘s Léa Seydoux has been cast as a new Bond Girl for this outing. Tell us in the comments below, are you excited about Dave Bautista being added?
