Disney XD has unleashed a new trailer for STAR WARS REBELS: SPARK OF REBELLION, the TV movie which begins the STAR WARS REBELS series. You can check it out below, and look for the film on October 3rd on the Disney Channel. I’m sort of conflicted on what to think, as what we’ve seen so far does look quite strange and distant from the STAR WARS worlds we all know, but it’s also an opportunity to bring in a lot of new characters. The voice cast includes Steve Blum, Greg Ellis, Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall, David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Tiya Sircar. Simon Kinberg, who is behind some of today’s biggest film properties (he wrote X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST), is helming the series, so that gives me hope as well. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.

STAR WARS REBELS: SPARK OF REBELLION premieres Friday, October 3rd at 9:00pm on the Disney Channel
