With JJ Abrams currently working hard on the next big screen STAR WARS installment, and the discontinuation of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, fans may be hungry for some Lucasfilm fulfillment right now. This fall sees the premiere of STAR WARS REBELS, a new animated series on Disney XD that feels like a more kid-friendly version of THE CLONE WARS, and is even under the direction of CLONE WARS mastermind Dave Filoni. Last night on Disney XD folks got to see STAR WARS-themed episodes of KIKCIN’ IT and PHINEAS AND FERB, and were treated to a special 7-minute preview of REBELS, which you can now watch below. This was promoted as the first seven minutes of the show, and plays that way, so we’re guessing that’s exactly what it is. We’re introduced to the principal characters, and get a vibe of the show’s tone, which appears to be lighthearted and fun. The voice cast includes Steve Blum, Greg Ellis, Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall, David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Tiya Sircar. Take a look for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.

Scheduled to premiere this October as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
