The number of jokes, quotes and set pieces that exist today from Ivan Reitman’s 1984 masterpiece, GHOSTBUSTERS, speaks to the staying power of the film. It holds up to repeated viewings to this day, the performances are sparkling, and even the effects don’t make Millenials’ eyes roll because they’re not CG-MoCap-whatever.
Credit Harold Ramis and a phenomenal script, and the fates for having everything fall a certain way during production – when you read the “making of” notes, it’s a miracle the film even got made at all.
Fittingly, Sony Pictures is commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the film’s release with a 4K restoration, which will hit theaters for one week beginning August 29. Take a gander at the new trailer, released today:

Instead of pining away for a sequel / reboot that will likely never happen, let’s instead celebrate the film that makes us pine in the first place. Whaddya say?
