EARTH TO ECHO gets two new (final?) trailers – imagine E.T. as a found footage film

While I’m not the biggest fan of found footage movies, I must say EARTH TO ECHO looks pretty darn cool. Playing off a storyline that feels like E.T. mixed with CHRONICLE, the new film from Relativity Media is officially on our radar for 2014, and now we have another new U.S. trailer, plus what appears to be a longer International trailer (see both below). Starring Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig and Ella Linnea Wahlestedt, and directed by Dave Green, it hits theaters July 4th weekend… well, July 2nd actually. JJ Abrams attempted to recapture the Steven Spielberg sensibilities of E.T. in SUPER 8, and while some enjoyed that experience, others found it somewhat lacking. This may improve upon that idea in a big way, at least the potential is there. While I could spend time trying to explain why it’s so intriguing to us, it’s probably easier to just have you watch the trailers and see for yourself. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals. What they discover is something beyond their wildest imaginations: a small alien who has become stranded on Earth. In need of their help, the four friends come together to protect the alien and help him find his way home. This journey, full of wonder and adventure, is their story, and their secret.
