Over the weekend at WonderCon 2014, director Dean DeBlois and star Jay Baruchel presented at the first five minutes of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 to enthusiastic fans. Now, thanks to Yahoo, you can see that footage as well. Check it out below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. The staff of BIGFANBOY.com makes no bones about our love for HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. What could have been a vapid kids movie with dragons and Vikings wound up being a film with rich characters, fantastic animation and a story we’ll go back to repeatedly for seconds. Hearing writer / director Dean DeBlois talk about his plans for the sequel when he accepted the Tex Avery Award at the 2011 Dallas International Film Festival only stoked our enthusiasm for the project. Seeing the first teaser poster by Drew Struzan, which Dean premiered at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, just made us even more excited. Very soon we’ll see what he’s cooked up with DreamWorks Animation for the finished product. I love that the story here continues the “family” element of the first film, while taking our characters out of puberty. I would say I can’t wait… but that would be an understatement. The impressive voice cast features Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Kit Harington, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Djimon Hounsou, and Kristen Wiig.

From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon.” Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

There’s also a second clip released which is a somewhat choppy edit of some of the footage above, but continues things out a bit. You can see that here:
