IN ANOTHER FIRST: HIT COMEDY GETS RE-CUT AS DRAMA

“ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: NO JOKE CUT” TO HAVE
EXCLUSIVE DIGITAL DEBUT

HOLLYWOOD, CA (April 1, 2014) – Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez Productions today announced the upcoming release of an all new cut of the hit film “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES,” starring Will Ferrell, which will be released exclusively on Digital.

The new version of the film, titled “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: NO JOKE CUT,” will feature no jokes at all, and will instead focus on the drama surrounding the rise of the first 24-hour news channel.  The release follows the successful February 28ththeatrical release of “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: SUPER-SIZED R-RATED VERSION,” which featured 763 entirely new jokes.

“Comedies often fail to get the consideration they deserve because laughter masks the serious storytelling going on beneath the surface,” said producer Judd Apatow.  “This new cut illustrates that Anchorman 2 can hold its weight against any drama.”

“People know that Will and I do many joke options for our movies, but I think what gets lost is the fact that underneath the laughs there’s a very powerful drama at work,” said writer/ director Adam McKay.  “Movies like Sophie’s ChoiceOrdinary People andBreaking the Waves are the movies that inspire Will and me.  I’m just glad, with the no joke cut, audiences can finally appreciate the rawness and drama of Anchorman 2.”

“ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES,” a sequel to 2004’s cult film “ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY,” was released in theaters on December 18, 2013 and has earned more than $170 million at the worldwide box office to date.

With the 70’s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES,” which opened in theaters everywhere December 18.  Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner).  Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell & Adam McKay.  Directed by Adam McKay.
