Director Gareth Evans was recently in Austin with two of the stars from THE RAID 2, but tragedy struck when the screening of the film was screwed up and played without subtitles. After 10 minutes it was stopped, and the 1200 anxious fans at The Paramount Theater were told to come back the next day for another try. The saddest part of all this was the following morning was when the studio had scheduled all the press interviews for their talent, and since no one got to see the movie all those interviews were canceled. These poor guys came all the way from Indonesia and didn’t get to do any press. Despite that, I’m still ridiculously excited to see the movie. Evans unleashed THE RAID: REDEMPTION in 2011, and for many it was a mind-blowing action movie experience… myself included. If you’ve been hungry for more, not to worry, this March you’ll get just that. A new action-acked internet trailer for THE RAID 2 (we’re guessing the studio simplified the original title THE RAID 2: BERANDAL for American audiences) is here, courtesy of IGN. Iko Uwais returns as “Rama”, and Evans writes and directs the action. The first trailer was already a contender for one of my favorite trailers of 2014… can’t decide if this one tops it. Give it a look and tell us what you think.
The film stars Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Alex Abad, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Julie Estelle, Cecep Arif Rahman, Cok Simbara, Yayan Ruhian, Matsuda Ryuhei, Endo Kenichi, and Kitamura Kazuki. I can’t wait! Are you excited about this one? Let us know in the comments.
He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
Formidable though they may have been, Rama’s opponents in that fateful building were nothing more than small fish swimming in a pond much larger than he ever dreamed possible. And his triumph over the small fry has attracted the attention of the predators farther up the food chain. His family at risk, Rama has only one choice to protect his infant son and wife: He must go undercover to enter the criminal underworld himself and climb through the hierarchy of competing forces until it leads him to the corrupt politicians and police pulling the strings at the top of the heap.
And so Rama begins a new odyssey of violence, a journey that will force him to set aside his own life and history and take on a new identity as the violent offender “Yuda.” In prison he must gain the confidence of Uco – the son of a prominent gang kingpin – to join the gang himself, laying his own life on the line in a desperate all-or-nothing gambit to bring the whole rotten enterprise to an end.
