Director James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is Marvel’s big summer box office film for 2014, and one of the more curious projects to come from the popular comic book company. Unlike the more traditional superheroes, these cosmic characters have strange appearances and odd settings, and many have wondered what the visuals would look like. To date, the only “official” looks we’ve had were in the form of conceptual art for the film. Now Marvel has released an official image of some of the key characters, which you can see below. Notice how the image looks extremely similar to the concept art image above? Click on either to see them full-size. The movie stars Chris Pratt (as Peter Quill / Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (as Gamora), Bradley Cooper (as the voice of Rocket Raccoon), Dave Bautista (as Drax the Destroyer), Vin Diesel (as the voice of Groot), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Djimon Hounsou (Korath the Pursuer), Michael Rooker (Yondu), John C. Reilly (Rhomann Dey) and Glenn Close (Nova Prime). In the image below we see (from left to right) Saldana, Pratt, Rocket Raccoon which will be voiced by Cooper, Bautista, and Groot which will be voiced by Diesel. From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
