PACIFIC RIM is what movies are all about.  Fun escapism meant to help us forget the problems we may be having for a brief time while we witness fantastic stories on the big screen.  While the love child of Guillermo del Toro has been struggling to find its legs here in the states, it is proving to be a success overseas as it has given Warner Bros. its largest opening in China ever.

What’s great about the film is if you grew up watching the old Godzilla movies or even Ultra Man on TV, the idea of seeing large creatures and men in suits go at it is just so much fun and del Toro has successfully translated that using modern technology.  That update is great, but there is at least one fan whose love for del Toro’s film and the classic Japanese monster films has come together in an exciting mash-up.  We have to thank the wonderful folks over at /Film for bringing this one to our attention.

PACIFIC RIM is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars  Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day.

SYNOPSIS: From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.” When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

PACIFIC RIM hit 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on July 12, 2013.
