It’s safe to say there’s still not much is known about the upcoming Hugh Jackman vehicle, THE WOLVERINE, though it’s obviously following the mini-series storyline by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller first published in 1982. Several of the characters are in the cast list, but the studio’s description of the new film is rather vague – “Wolverine travels to Japan to train with a samurai warrior.” If the script (by Mark Bomback and Christopher McQuarrie) follows the classic comic storyline closely, we could have a rather dramatic and powerful take on the rugged hero. Let’s hope that’s the case. The new movie follows the last solo effort of Jackman in the role made famous from the X-MEN trilogy, though X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (2009) received only lukewarm reaction from critics and fans. It still made a crapload of money at the box office, which of course leads to more Wolvie on the big screen. The new film simply titled THE WOLVERINE is directed by James Mangold (KNIGHT AND DAY, 3:10 TO YUMA) and co-stars Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee (as Silver Samurai), Hiroyuki Sanada (as Shingen Yashida), Svetlana Khodchenkova (rumored as Viper), Rila Fukushima (as Yukio) and Tao Okamoto (as Mariko Yashida).
