Just days ago we saw the first teaser poster for director J.J. Abrams STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, which showed a sinister-looking Benedict Cumberbatch (who plays the undefined villain) standing over rather singnificant wreckage. And now we get our first official look at some footage with a short but sweet teaser trailer, which you can see below. The American trailer is followed by a Japanese trailer, which has a tad more footage at the end. While we see lots of action and several characters, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding the plot. Things I noticed in the trailer – Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) go on an adventure together, Scotty (Simon Pegg) is crying holding Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and observing something clearly unsettling (a major character dying perhaps?), the Enterprise underwater (or should I say coming out of the water). And if you look at the Japanese trailer, there’s a shot at the end that’s VERY reminiscent of STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN. What do you see in the trailer? Tell us your thoughts in the comments. As the resident Bigfanboy.com TREK expert this is what I am predicting based on watching that trailer… ten times… (Spoilers, maybe?)
1-Starfleet is destroyed.
2-Carol Marcus plays a role in it. Perhaps dies with child, and sets Kirk at the villian’s throat.
3-Spock dying? Shot reminiscent of WRATH OF KHAN ending….
4-With that previous parallel, and the line “I have returned to have my vengence” and the fact that there are no glowing “Gary Mitchell eyes”, I’m calling the villian: KHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!
5-Why Khan? Well I say in this new timeline, Khan and his people were found and thawed not by Kirk, but by Starfleet, elsewhere. Then stayed on earth, learned the new technology and then got out and started destroying Earth, killing Kirk’s family in the process. Thus, Kirk vs. Khan. Oh yes.
6-That trailer was awesome.
7-I am gonna watch it about 20 more times….today.
8-I hope the Mayans were wrong and we do actually get to May.
9-If I knew it was showing in Russia right now, I’d fly there to see it.
10-KHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!
