Best of Blu-ray: THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW: The Complete Series on Blu-ray – loads of bonus content!

As a kid, my television tastes weren’t always what most would think a kid would attach to. While others my age were watching HE-MAN and G.I. JOE, I had immersed myself in reruns of the original STAR TREK or shows like GILLIGAN’S ISLAND. One of my favorite series to watch retroactively was THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. Oh sure, you could argue I just like its star after seeing him in MARY POPPINS, but I always felt there was more to it than that. Dick Van Dyke was one of those charming TV stars everyone seemed to love, and with good reason. Just last year I got the pleasure of seeing him and his brother Jerry perform The Sunshine Boys on stage, and I can honestly say the man hasn’t lost a step. When I heard every episode of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW was hitting Blu-ray (you can order it here), taken directly from the original 35mm negatives and now in high definition, my nostalgic heart began beating rather fast. But the picture quality of the series isn’t even the best part! The fine folks at Image Entertainment have loaded the 15-disc set with splendid bonus features, including multiple featurettes, original promotional videos and radio content, audio commentaries, and so much more. This set quickly went from “want to own” status straight into “must own” territory. And as one would expect, the show has never looked or sounded better. I can honestly say I don’t buy a lot of television programs on DVD or Blu-ray, but this is one I’d suggest everyone pick up. Cozy up with Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Carl Reiner, Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam, and Richard Deacon for five seasons of fun and funny material. You won’t regret this purchase, and it’s the perfect gift for the holidays!

In “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” you’ll join Rob Petrie (Dick Van Dyke) in his struggles with the ups and downs of work and home, aided and agitated by his lovely wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore). Adding to the fun are Rob’s wisecracking co-workers Sally (Rose Marie) and Buddy (Morey Amsterdam), long-suffering Mel Cooley (Richard Deacon) and hot-tempered boss Alan Brady (Carl Reiner).

Winner of 15 Emmy Awards, “The Dick van Dyke Show” is one of television’s greatest comedies – TV Guide ranked it #13 on its list of the 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. A creation of comedy genius Carl Reiner, and based on his experiences as a writer for “Your Show of Shows,” this was a comedic miracle: a combination of incomparable cast and writing.

Now you’ll be able to see “The Dick Van Dyke Show: The Complete Series” again for the very first time in HD! Every hysterical moment of every episode of every season!

It’s one of TV’s most beloved sitcoms in one beautifully packaged box set!
