Marvel is ready to follow up the overwhelming success of THE AVENGERS with both IRON MAN 3 and THOR: THE DARK WORLD, but first up is IRON MAN 3, set to hit theaters May 3, 2013. Today we get our first solid look at the film with the new poster and first teaser trailer below.
Jon Favreau is handing over directing duties to Shane Black, who previously acted as director with Robert Downey Jr. on KISS KISS BANG BANG. The third installment is looking rather serious, and features an all-star supporting cast. Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle returns as James Rhodes, and Jon Favreau is back as Happy Hogan – they’re joined by Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale, and Ben Kingsley (as The Mandarin). The plot is still mostly a mystery, though the trailer indicates The Mandarin at some point levels Tony Stark’s cliffside home, and many of the shots would indicate a variation of the “Extremis” comic book storyline by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov.
