SDCC 2012: Marvel Cinematic Universe – Phase 2 news you can use!

If you are a Marvel fan, then today has been a great day for you at the San Diego Comic-Con.  Today, Marvel has not only announced the titles for many of their upcoming films, but they have also released the title cards for said films and even some concept art. So let’s get to it shall we?

Many have already known that for next year, we would see the sequels for Iron Man and Thor, but now we know that while Marvel is going for the simple IRON MAN 3 for the Iron Avenger’s third solo venture which is directed by Shane Black and will hit theaters on May 3, 2013, they are going the subtitle route for Thor’s next outing which is now called THOR: THE DARK WORLD and will hit theaters on November 8, 2013 and is directed by Alan Taylor.  Check out the title cards below and check out the new website for IRON MAN 3 at www.Marvel.com/IronMan3.  Also, thanks to ComicBookMovie.com (which collected photos from Marvel’s Agent MCinema Blend and Marvel), we also have the first images of Tony Stark’s new armor from the threequel.

With 2014, we have known for a while that we were getting the sequel to CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, but now we know the title which will be CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER which will hit theaters on April 4, 2014 and will be directed byAnthony Russo and Joe Russo. The title alludes to the fact that this may revolve around Bucky’s transformation into The Winter Soldier.  What we haven’t known for sure is what the second movie would be 2014, but there had been rumors that it was  either BLACK PANTER or GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.  Well, it has now been confirmed that the mystery movie is officially GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Check out the title cards below as well as the first concept art for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY which shows that the movie will indeed include Rocket Raccoon.  No director has been announced for the film, but it is still scheduled to hit theaters on August 1, 2014 from a script by Nicole Perlman.  Kevin Feige has said that the movie will be a big, space epic and will introduce many cosmic entities to the MCU.  Drax the Destroyer, Star-Lord, Gamora and Nova are all said to be included along with the aforementioned Rocket Raccoon.

The final title card showed today by Marvel Studios was for Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN which still does not have a release date but did show some test footage.  Here is a description of the test footage for ANT-MAN provided by Andrew over at Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Facebook:

“Test footage was shown and it appears as if the hero will wear the Irredeemable Ant-Man costume. His face was covered, so there’s no indication as to who was playing him, and the suit is black with red highlights.  Ant-Man is shown standing only a few inches tall in an air vent before suddenly growing in a flash and taking out two guards.  He punches another in the [face] while in his small size, knocking one of the guy’s teeth out before sliding down his tie, returning to his natural size, and flipping the guy over.  He then makes his escape.”
