This summer, we are seeing an influx of really great potential blockbusters, whether we are talking about the comic-book giants Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, Chris Nolan’s epic conclusion to his Batman franchise THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (who just got an amazing new trailer which you can see here) or Mark Webb’s reboot of Spider-Man in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (which we are expecting a new trailer for any day now), or we are talking about some fun summer flicks like G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, BATTLESHIP or ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT. One movie though is firmly on our radar here at BigFanBoy, and on the radar of many-a-moviegoers out there, and that is the return of Ridley Scott to the universe he created for ALIEN in this summer’s PROMETHEUS. It is important to point out that while he is returning to this universe, this is neither a reboot, sequel or prequel, but it’s own story set in the same universe.
Today we have a brand new 3-minute long international trailer which is just simply amazing. When you see the look of the titular ship Prometheus, you get a real sense as to how similar Ridley Scott can be to James Cameron when it comes to creating futuristic, yet realistic, space exploration vehicles. The ship, and many of the shots, seem like they were pulled right out of the AVATAR playbook and that is by no means an attack, but rather praise on Mr. Scott. There’s weight and functionality to the ship, as well as to the environments, sets and effects. Check out the new trailer right here:
We also have a great new featurette for PROMETHEUS, entitled “Creations“, which really delves into more about how the movie came about and the attention to detail that the director, writer, cast and crew put into the movie. You can check that out below.
PROMETHEUS is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.
SYNOPSIS: In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system’s natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.
Ridley Scott, director of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner,’ returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
PROMETHEUS is set to hit 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on June 8, 2012.
