THE LOSERS poster and trailer, based on the Vertigo comic book

THE LOSERS comic artist Jock turns in a comic-style movie poster!

THE LOSERS may not be the most widely-known comic book title, but it’s definitely one of critical acclaim, and (obviously) perfect material for a big screen adaptation.  Based on the book by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock, the story follows a CIA Black Ops team betrayed and left for dead, who decide to go after those who targeted them.  Last weekend at the Dallas Comic Con, the trailer was shown to a packed Q&A panel, attended by Bob Wayne (DC Comics VP of Sales), and the place went nuts!  The cast includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Oscar Jaenada, Columbus Short, and Jason Patric as the baddie – with a screenplay by Peter Berg, directed by Sylvain White.  Morgan got a lot of attention last year with WATCHMEN, and Chris Evans is certainly no stranger to comic book movies, after his turn as Johnny Storm in the FANTASTIC FOUR movies.  While THE LOSERS may not seem like a traditional comic book style film, it will hopefully open the doors for more independent titles to influence the Hollywood studios.  There’s a lot of great comic series out there that don’t involve superheroes, and rather than give us another remake or sequel, those book could just be the answer to our moviegoing prayers.

And here’s another promo shot (likely a poster concept) for THE LOSERS.  Look for it to open on April 16, 2010.
