SXSW 2012: Video interview – Sean Patrick Flanery, David Della Rocco and Norman Reedus talk THE BOONDOCK SAINTS video game, THE WALKING DEAD and more!

Being a fan of THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, I’ve been lucky enough to become friends with the men behind the films, and had multiple opportunities to interview almost everyone involved. At this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, I had the pleasure of once again sitting down with actors Sean Patrick Flanery, David Della Rocco, and Norman Reedus – this time to chat about the upcoming video game for THE BOONDOCK SAINTS.

The folks over at Critical Mass Interactive are developing a first person shooter based on the popular MacManus brothers adventures on the big screen.  All three actors (Sean, Rocco and Norman) are said to be featured in the game, and the developers are saying it will feature exact likenesses, voices, perhaps even full motion capture.  We’re keeping tabs on this, so more as it develops.  While conducting these latest interviews with the fellas, it occurred to me how strange it was that there hasn’t already been a game like this, especially since the BOONDOCK world lends itself to that so easily.  I need to get Troy Duffy on the phone and ask him what the holdup has been!  Incidentally, I got to hang quite a bit with Troy last year at SXSW, so his absence at the 2012 installment has saddened me, but I’m sure we’ll run into each other again soon.  In the meantime check out the new trio of interviews below (Sean, followed by Rocco, followed by Norman).  I talk to Sean about the game and being back in Texas, plus the idea of him popping up on THE WALKING DEAD with Norman.  I chat with Rocco about his upcoming projects, including a cool sounding biker film with Jeff Santo (OFF THE BOULEVARD).  And Norman and I wrap things up talking about THE WALKING DEAD season finale, and his love of video games with his son.  It’s always good to catch up with the boys.

Big thanks to Wendy Shepherd (as always, love you Wendy), Jodi Jackson, Coleman Washington and Matt Scibilia for setting all this up, and to the fine folks at SXSW for allowing this to happen as well.  And of course thanks to my trusted cameraman Ric Mulligan for (somewhat) containing his excitement long enough to shoot the following video – Ric, you’re a mensch. As mentioned in the video, you can meet Norman Reedus in Dallas this May at Texas Frightmare Weekend.
