The Alamo Drafthouse has developed quite a reputation even outside of their Austin stomping grounds. Frequently home to sold out retro showings of classic films, from just about every era, the folks at the Drafthouse have now expanded their scope to producing their own movies… a move that in many ways makes perfect sense. Their first cinematic effort is called THE FP, and is a rather unusual throwback to 1980’s and 1990’s competitive gang films, with nods to movies like BREAKIN’, the STEP UP franchise, the ROCKY films, and even THE WARRIORS (including narration by the great James Remar). I wasn’t sure what to think when I first saw the trailer for THE FP, but after watching the first 10 minutes, I think I’m “getting it” big time. Granted, this is NOT a movie everyone is going to like, but those who understand the style and humor will likely be very, very entertained. Check out the special sneak preview and see if you don’t agree. As always let us know your thoughts in the comments.
In a dystopian future, a relentless turf war rages. Two rival gangs feud for control of rural wasteland Frazier Park (‘The FP’) in the deadly arena of competitive dance-fight video game “Beat-Beat Revelation.” After hometown hero BTRO is slain on the dance platform by thug leader L Dubba E, his protégé younger brother JTRO (Jason Trost) goes into isolation, vowing never to duel again. One year later, The FP is in ruins, and JTRO must find the courage to return and restore order in a ruthless battle for revenge that can only leave one man dancing. From the producers of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and featuring narration by James Remar (THE WARRIORS), THE FP is a fury of fierce footwork, triumphant montages and neon street wear that Moviefone calls “a rare ready-made cult hit.”
