Jeremy Renner is quickly becoming a go-to guy for action movies.  With his roles as William Brandt in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL and  Clint Barton / Hawkeye in this summer’s THE AVENGERS, we already knew he could play the super-spy, super-badass, and that looks to be even more cemented with his role as in this year’s THE BOURNE LEGACY.

THE BOURNE LEGACY is not a sequel or a remake or a reboot of the brilliant Bourne movies starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, but rather another story set in the same universe.  There are references to Jason Bourne, but this story is solely focused on Jeremy Renner’s character, Aaron Cross, and his part as an agent in the OUTCOME project.  While only being a teaser trailer, it does give the impression that the action, suspense and superb story telling from the original trilogy will all be present in this latest installment.  Take a peek at the first trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

THE BOURNE LEGACY is directed by Tony Gilroy and written by Dan Gilroy and Tony Gilroy.  The film stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac.

SYNOPSIS: The narrative architect behind the “Bourne” film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: “The Bourne Legacy.” The writer/director expands the “Bourne” universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

For “The Bourne Legacy,” Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

THE BOURNE LEGACY is set to hit theaters on August 3, 2012.
