Last year, Bryan Singer was set to return to the X-Men franchise as director until he had to step away. He remained on board as a producer and together with Matthew Vaughn, we got the stellar X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. The last time Singer left the director’s chair on an X-Men movie brought us the somewhat mediocre, in this guy’s opinion, SUPERMAN RETURNS. This time around, he left for the movie you see here, JACK THE GIANT KILLER. Bryan Singer has proven that he can be a great director, but he has also showed us that while he is able to deliver some great cinema experiences like THE USUAL SUSPECTS and X2: X-MEN UNITED, he can also deliver sub-par work as in the aforementioned SUPERMAN RETURNS.
With JACK THE GIANT KILLER, Singer is taking on the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and giving it a modern retelling. This time out, Jack is not stealing a magical chicken capable of laying golden eggs, but rather, inadvertently rekindling an ancient fued between us and a race of giants. Starring X-MEN: FIRST CLASS‘s Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy / Beast from the movie) as the titular Jack, JACK THE GIANT KILLER looks to be an exciting, fantastical take on the classic story complete with a breathtaking fight scenes and cinematography. Only time will tell if the story is as engaging as the visuals.
