If you are a fan of 2009’s THE EXPENDABLES which brought together some of today’s big action stars along with many of the big action stars from the 80’s and 90’s, then you are, without a doubt, looking forward to next year’s sequel, THE EXPENDABLES 2. This time around, almost all of the gang is back but they are not alone. In case you haven’t heard by now, Stallone, Lundgren, Statham, Crews and Li will be joined by the cult-phenomenon and general butt-kicker, Chuck Norris, the muscles from brussels, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Thor. Well, Thor’s brother. Well, the guy who played Thor, his brother in real life. Liam Hemsworth (he is playing Gale Hawthorne in the upcoming THE HUNGER GAMES). One more thing that fans were clamoring for in the first one was more Willis and more Schwarzenegger. Now that the Governator has ended his political aspirations and returned to movies, this has become a reality.
The trailer, if we can even call it that, is really a very simple, straightforward teaser. It’s effective though. After a quick bit of dialogue from Bruce Willis to Sylvestor Stallone, there is a montage of each of the actor’s last names followed by quick snippets of them from the movie. It doesn’t tell you much about the plot, but come on, let’s face it. This is enough to get most people excited for this movie. Well, those that would be interested in seeing a collection of some of the greatest action heroes together in one movie. Maybe in the third one, if there is a third one, they can try and get Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Matt Damon, Chris Hemsworth and just to see the obligatory fight, Steven Seagal. Who knows, but either way, count me in my seat come August 17th of next year.
Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think? Who are you looking forward too the most in the sequel? Who would you like to see added if they make another one?
THE EXPENDABLES is directed by Simon West and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger .
SYNOPSIS: The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal…
Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother.
That is done the Expendables way….
THE EXPENDABLES is set to hit theaters on August 17, 2012.
