Earlier this year at the 2011 Dallas International Film Festival, among the amazing talent brought in by the Dallas Film Society, Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Steve James (HOOP DREAMS) was brought in to receive a special honor.  His new film THE INTERRUPTERS was also being promoted, though it took some time for the project to finally hit theaters.  This weekend the film opens at the Angelika Dallas Theater, telling the emotional tale of a year in the life of urban violence in Chicago areas.  It’s already being talked about for Academy Award buzz, and James has a proven track record of inspired and impactful filmmaking.  Our own David Hamilton got a chance to sit down with the man himself at DIFF earlier this year, where Steve shared some thoughts on the new project, and his motivations for making documentaries.  It’s broken up into two fascinating segments, neither overly long and both worth watching.  Check it out below and be sure to look for THE INTERRUPTERS in your city.
