In December of 2010 I had the pleasure of posting up an amazing and lengthy video interview with Michael Biehn and Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, in which we discussed their project THE VICTIM, their experiences working with James Cameron, and so much more… it lasted over an hour. It’s also one of my favorite interviews of my entire journalistic career. Earlier this year I got to hang out with Michael and Jennifer again at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival, where they screened director Xavier Gens’ movie THE DIVIDE, a film which reminds us all why Michael is such a powerful acting force to be reckoned with. Since then I’ve held off posting that interview for a variety of frustrating reasons, either because of audio or video issues, or because I kept getting constantly sidetracked with something. But in a way I guess it’s fitting to post it now for a variety of other reasons – firstly because Anchor Bay Films recently announced they’re going to release a director’s cut of THE DIVIDE on Friday, January 13th, 2012, featuring footage not seen at previous screenings… and because both Michael and Jennifer are going to be at Wizard World Austin this weekend, November 10-12 at the Austin Convention Center. More info on the convention HERE.
In this new(er) interview we talk for almost 40 minutes about THE DIVIDE and why it’s such a cool flick, we also catch up a bit on THE VICTIM, and I even dare to ask Michael about one of his most unusual films, Christopher Coppola’s DEADFALL, in which he co-starred with Nicolas Cage and Charlie Sheen – if you’ve never seen it, trust me, it’s a strange ride. The lighting is obviously a bit dark, as we recorded this in the lobby of the hotel with a few drinks to keep us company, but one thing I love about talking to Michael and Jennifer is how casual and easygoing they are. There’s no apprehension about having the “right” backdrop or positioning the chairs just perfectly, they just have fun with it and go with the flow. I wish ALL actors could behave this way. Check out our second epic video interview below and leave your thoughts in the comments. Something tells me another interview is still to come, in which I’ll probably find out all their childhood secrets… I mean seriously, what’s left at this point? Heh.
My thanks once again to our mutual friend Brian McQuery for helping set this up… he’s a mensch.
