The sequel to 2008’s Brendan Fraser led JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH has hit over at Yahoo. This time out, we see Dywane “It’s about time we drop The Rock nickname” Johnson (FAST FIVE and the upcoming FAST SIX) and Josh Hutcherson (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and the upcoming THE HUNGER GAMES) as step-father and son who are tracking down a mysterious island, which may or may not be the lost island of Atlantis, which has been written about by Jules Verne and has captured the exploring spirit of Josh’s grandfather, played by Michael Caine.
The trailer looks beautiful with stunning visuals and it should certainly appeal to the younger crowd. While there is definitely your fair share of 3D gimmickry, a-la a bouncing berry off the bouncing pecs of Mr. Johnson, and enough fun gross-out humor, a-la Luis Guzman’s run-in with giant sized bird droppings, to keep the kiddos entertained, this movie should definitely not be looked at for anything other than a fun family affair.

SYNOPSIS: The follow-up to the 2008 hit. The new journey begins when young adventurer Sean (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist–a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is set to hit 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on February 10, 2012.
