First spy photos of Russell Crowe as Jor-El in MAN OF STEEL – costume details revealed

Back in August, we brought you some high quality spy photos of Henry Cavill in the new Superman suit for Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL.  Normally, we hear at BigFanboy don’t usually get into the business of posting spy photos because normally, the photos just aren’t that good and don’t give you a good sense of what they costume or action depicted will look like in the final product.  Every once in a while though, we get a good shot that we just have to share with you.  Daily Mail has posted the first photos of Russell Crowe in his Jor-El garb and the photos are quite good and they give a lot of detail as to the direction they are going with his costume.

Different iterations of the Superman mythos have explained the shield that Superman wears on his chest.  Some have simply stated that it was created by Martha Kent with the “S” used to stand for Superman while others have stated that it is actually the family crest that Kal-El’s family wore on Krypton and the resemblance to the English letter “S” is purely coincidental.  It appears, judging from these photos, that the latter is the way that Zack Snyder and company are going for in this new version of Superman, scheduled to hit theaters in 2013.

One thing to notice in the picture is the appearance of the blue suit underneath the main costume.  This is a match for color and texture of the Superman suit we have already seen on Henry Cavill.  That, along with the wrist bands in this one further points to the fact that his suit is of Kryptonian heritage as opposed to an Earth made suit.  Check out the photos below and let us know what you think in the comments.

The Zack Snyder directed MAN OF STEEL stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Kal-El / Superman.  He is joined by Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer as his birthparents Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy. This film will follow Superman as he faces off against two surviving Krptonians, Michael Shannon as the evil General Zod and Antje Traue as Faora.

MAN OF STEEL is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2013.
