This may be the coolest Superman casting news since Neo talked to Morpheus… see what I did there?  Laurence Fishburne is certainly an actor with gravitas, playing the iconic mentor in THE MATRIX trilogy, and more recently headlining CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (a show he just left after two and half seasons).  Now, according to HeroComplex, he’ll be taking on the role of Perry White, the head honcho at The Daily Planet, in director Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise titled MAN OF STEEL (starring Henry Cavill as the popular superhero).  This is a casting decision that is drawing equal parts praise and criticism from the comic book fan community, and the first African American actor to be cast in a classic role from the Superman comics (don’t try to bring up Richard Pryor in SUPERMAN III, that was a made up character).  It’s a bold choice, but I love Fishburne, and I’m actually pretty intrigued to see what he brings to this part.  He compliments a cast that already includes names like Kevin Costner (as Jonathan Kent), Diane Lane (as Martha Kent), Russell Crowe (as Superman’s father Jor-El) Julia Ormond (as Superman’s mother Lara), Amy Adams (as Lois Lane), Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, Michael Shannon (as General Zod), and Antje Traue.  The character of Perry White was famously portrayed by Jackie Cooper in four SUPERMAN movies featuring Christopher Reeve, and later by Frank Langella in Bryan Singer’s SUPERMAN RETURNS.  How do you feel about this latest casting choice?  Tell us in the comments. MAN OF STEEL is now set to open June 14, 2013.
