SXSW 2011: THE BOONDOCK SAINTS director Troy Duffy & star David Della Rocco promote Yoostar 2 – video interviews

I am (admittedly) a big fan of THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, so any chance I get to throw some publicity toward something related to the popular franchise, I’m happy to do just that.  At this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, there was a nice addition to the interactive exhibit hall in the form of the Yoostar 2 booth, which featured special BOONDOCK guests -director Troy Duffy and star David Della Rocco.  This was my first time meeting Rocco, but Troy and I have some history as we met a few years back during the incredibly successful Dallas premiere of THE BOONDOCK SAINTS II, and he’s been a featured guest on the Bigfanboy Livecast (our long-running weekly podcast) before as well.  Oddly enough, my first exposure to Troy in any form was (at the suggestion of a friend) watching the documentary OVERNIGHT, which portrays Duffy as a frequently drunk and power-hungry madman.  Nothing could be further from the truth… though I must admit we’ve done our share of friendly drinking together.  Duffy is in fact an incredibly generous and fan-friendly director, and extremely passionate about his franchise.  It’s always safe to assume that ANY documentary you see can easily shift your emotions one way or another, if edited just the right way.  The Troy I know is NOT the Troy in OVERNIGHT, and if you ever get a chance to meet the man, you’ll see that very quickly.  Okay, I’ll stop trying to justifiably sway your opinion on the guy and get to the point.  The reason Duffy and Rocco were at SXSW this year was to promote THE BOONDOCK SAINTS being included in the new Yoostar 2 game, which is currently available.  Visit the official Yoostar website for more info.  If you’re not familiar with what Yoostar is, imagine the concept behind karaoke… now apply that to your favorite movies.  Just picture you and your friends starring in a memorable scene from one of your most beloved flicks – it’s a reality my friends, Yoostar puts YOU in the movie.  I even had a chance to star in a few scenes from THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, which is one of many awesome films available to you in the Yoostar library.  To give you a taste of what this is all about, check out the videos below, and see for yourself the kind of fun you could have in your own home.

In this first video, we catch up with Troy Duffy, talk about the coolness of Yoostar 2, find out about some exciting new projects he has lined up, and of course ask where things sit with THE BOONDOCK SAINTS III.

.

Next up, I try my hand at acting out a scene in THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, with Troy looking over my shoulder and offering up some criticism… don’t worry, we’re still very much friends.

.

We then take some time to talk to “Rocco” himself, actor David Della Rocco.  He discusses the fun and sometimes unusual aspect of BOONDOCK fandom, and throws out some plugs for the Yoostar 2 game as well… oh, and we’re rudely interrupted by a passing train.  Director Duffy is not pleased.  Get ready to laugh.

.

Finally we talk to Yoostar’s own Ben Friedberg about the game, what systems it’s available for, and some of the many titles included which you and your friends can play.  This thing is so much fun I can’t even begin to tell ya!

Big thanks to Ben, Troy, David, Jodi Jackson, and the lovely Lindsay Rowe (who also shot the Rocco interview!)
