If you’re not watching STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS on Cartoon Network, you really are missing out on the best interpretations of George Lucas’ vision since the original trilogy. The CG-animated show is set between EPISODE II and III, the series follows the adventures of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during the transitional time of the STAR WARS universe. There’s been some familiar guest voices in the series, but Lucasfilm fans are about to get a big thrill when none other than Liam Neeson returns to voice the character he made famous in EPISODE I: The Phantom Menace, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. In an episode airing on January 28 and another airing February 11, as part of a three-part story arc. Other notable voice actors already heard on the series include Seth Green, Daniel Logan, George Takei, Michael York, Ron Perlman, Clancy Brown, and director Jon Favreau. THE CLONE WARS airs Friday nights at 8:30 pm ET). Neeson talked to EW he wanted to return to the STAR WARS universe because he felt “these characters resonate…even after all these years.” Also adding, “Growing up, my heroes were cowboys; they were strong and mysterious, and it seemed like they always rode off into the sunset. For kids today, Star Wars has that same kind of magic. I really wanted to be a part of that.”
Knowing what we do about the SW universe, there’s really only one way Qui-Gon could appear, as evidenced in the clip below. This also fills in the blank on the questions fans asked regarding Obi-Wan not speaking to his former master in spirit form, the way Luke Skywalker spoke to him down the line. Qui-Gon, according to SW lore, is the first Jedi to discover the ability of re-appearing in a ghostly form after dying… which at some point must have been taught to Obi-Wan as well. This is just one more reason to check out THE CLONE WARS, if you’re not already doing so. I suspect this may not be the last big name voice to appear in the series, and that in and of itself is kind of a cool thought. Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
