Retro Review ‘JACKASS 2’ Starring Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Bam Margera

JACKASS NUMBER TWO review…

For a long time, I avoided JACKASS. I thought it was plot-less, appealing to only the lower crust, locker room antics not worthy of a hour and a half of my life. And I was right. And never have I laughed harder when I finally gave it a chance.

Yeah, I’m byist cause I am a JACKASS fan. So much so that I own the original CKY videos, the WILDBOYS and VIVA LA BAM seasons. Also, I own the JACKASS boxset and film. I am a fan through and through. Does that make me dumb for watching it?

I hope not. I consider myself pretty well comedically rounded. I can laugh at a great comedian like Charlie Chaplin, playing HITLER in THE GREAT DICTATOR (my favorite comedy film). and I can also laugh at Steve-O launching fireworks out of his butt.

Its Beavis and Butthead humor, yeah. But I think in all of us, we all want to see these things happen. I am reminded of a scene in the Beavis and Butthead movie, when they are in the Captial building and make a vulgar announcement over the congress speakers. In return, all in attendance give the signature Beavis laugh. Everyone at their core, no matter how much we think we have evolved, must find potty humor and dumb things funny. We love to see it happen to others, we tell the stories about “this one time my friend got hurt real bad!” In essence, we are all JACKASSES.

So, I was excited for NUMBER TWO. And for me, a true fan of JACKASS, it doesn’t dissapoint. In fact, it surpasses the original. Just when you think its all been done before, here comes this… upping the ante. The boys are older, and more de-evolved than ever. And that means more funny for me! There’s practical jokes, drunken rampages, snake eating puppets made of male body parts (you figure that one out), fears faced and ending with a La Cage aux Folles song “The Best of Times”, where the cast sing and dance while getting battered by violent stunts. Whats more, if the movie wasn’t enough, the disc includes deleted or extended scenes. Also there was a straight to DVD release called JACKASS 2.5. The well never runs dry when it comes to Jackass!

If you are a fan, I’d give it a 5 of our 5 cups of stuff you would NEVER drink!!

But if you are expecting intricate plots, a twist ending and great acting, go rent a golden oldie instead. Let us have our check our brain at the door style of toilet humor. Feel free to roll your eyes at us as we stand in line to go see JACKASS 2, and JACKASS 29. But you’re missing out on pure, honest fun. Moreso, you are missing out on (dare I say it….) performance art.
