A DOG’S WAY HOME hits theaters this weekend, the second film based on Cameron’s book series, which began with A DOG’S PURPOSE, and will soon be followed by A DOG’S JOURNEY in May. The second in this series is incredibly heartwarming and sweet, a nice sort of throwback to the family films of the 1980s, and complimented well by a strong leading performance by Shelby (a rescue dog who is incredibly convincing in the movie). Cameron also wrote the screenplay with his wife Cathryn Michon, and they’ve found a nice rhythm in penning these movies together, effectively adapting Bruce’s novels in a way that’s accessible for moviegoers. I had a chance to sit down with Bruce and Cathryn to discuss their approach to the film, and we were even joined by Shelby during the interview. He currently catalogs rare comic books and movie memorabilia for Heritage Auctions, and runs the Dallas Comic Show conventions, but remains an avid moviegoer and cinema buff.
