Matt Damon will be BOURNE again for director Paul Greengrass in 2016

It’s probably safe to say a lot of people thought Matt Damon was pretty much done with the Bourne film franchise, especially after the torch was passed to Jeremy Renner in THE BOURNE LEGACY. There’s been varying reports over the last year or so, including a report where director Paul Greengrass said rather definitively he would not be doing another. Then E! News comes along and interviews Damon and buddy Ben Affleck for their Project Greenlight show, and a bomb is dropped. While asking whether Ben’s Batman physique makes arguing an issue, Affleck noted that Matt is “going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness.” It’s unknown at this point if this was a slip up by Ben, as you’d think a more ‘official’ announcement would have been made about something like that, but Damon pretty much confirmed it. When E! asked if he was in fact doing it, Matt stated “Yes, next year… it’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Pretty much sounds confirmed at this point. This will be Greengrass and Damon’s third BOURNE film together, in a film franchise that had a worldwide gross of over $1.2 billion for Universal Pictures – we’re guessing they’re pretty happy right about now.  Of course this also brings into question what will happen with Renner.  Will he appear in the new film?  It’s been speculated he could do his own BOURNE films separate from Damon’s, and eventually the two character may collide.  The movies are inspired by the late Robert Ludlum’s book series.  So what do you think, is Matt Damon returning to the character exciting?  Let us know in the comments below.
