Retro Review ‘Captivity’ Starring Elisha Cuthbert

CAPTIVITY-

The newest in a long line of modern horror films, Captivity is about a model who is captured and tortured and used by her captor. Nothing new or exciting to add to the concept that defines the horror torture porn genre that encompasses many of today’s movies in the genre.

Unfortunately, I can only describe this as another torture porn film, only without the porn. They could have had it too. I don’t know why they decided to not go too gratuitious with this. I mean, why not already? This is a cross between MISERY and SAW. There are a couple really squeamish moments. And one moment that makes you absolutely loathe the bad guy… whoever that is in the end. No spoilers here for those that actually care to go back and see it.

Of course, like all modern horror flicks, there’s a “TWIST.” and luckily, it presents itself early enough to not really be all that distracting. But some of the logic seems to go out the door with it. But interestingly enough, you are still along with the ride.

Staying spoiler free, I got a few nitpicks with the film. Like, where the hell did certain things that were introduced go? I cannot say what it is, but watch the film and you’ll say: ‘Hey, didn’t she have a _____?’ What happened to it? Granted, I didn’t watch the deleted scenes, but should I have to to solve mysteries that the movie leaves us? I wouldn’t think so.

Overall, I was mildly, MILDLY entertained and a tad disgusted. But not overwhelmed. It was forgettable and not too fun either. But I’ve certainly seen worse.

GRADE: 2.5 more cookie cutter torture porn horror movie plots out of 5
