The new Ivan Reitman movie DRAFT DAY opens this weekend starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Tom Welling, Terry Crews, Sam Elliott, Ellen Burstyn, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Cousins, David Ramsey, Chadwick Boseman, Chi McBride, and Frank Langella. As part of a promotional press tour through the studio, Tom Welling (of SMALLVILLE fame) stopped in Dallas to talk about his role in the film. Tom gets one short but memorable (and powerhouse) scene with Costner, and his character is one of the key elements in the story. I had met Tom before last year when he attended the Dallas International Film Festival to support his buddy Kellan Lutz. I’m happy to say he’s a nice fella, and it nice to see him taking a strong interest in movies now. Welling spent ten years playing Clark Kent, and among the other things we discussed I asked him about his reluctance to return to TV. Tom’s role in DRAFT DAY isn’t exactly a big one, but it’s an important character, and reflects the thoughts and feelings of real life NFL superstars. Check out the interview below, and the movie in theaters this weekend, and tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
