Paul Bettany to play THE VISION in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Multiple sources including The Daily Mail and Variety have confirmed that Paul Bettany (A KNIGHT’S TALE, THE DAVINCI CODE) will move from being the voice of Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey, Jr.) A.I. butler J.A.R.V.I.S. to the full bodied android, THE VISION.

The Vision is a longtime member of the Avengers, one who many fans believed would show up in the MCU as a way to return Agent Coulson from the dead.  This has obviously not been the case as Coulson’s return on Marvel’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. has show him to not be the Vision, so this breaking news is being very well received by the fans.  It will be interesting to see if this version of The Vision will just be a physical manifestation of the J.A.R.V.I.S. programming (a change from the comics as Jarvis was an actual, living person who acted as the butler for the Avengers and had no relationship beyond that to The Vision) or if Bettany will be playing both as two separate entities.

Another interesting aspect of The Vision being included in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is the inclusion of The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) who, in the comics, became the wife of the Vision.  We will have to see if this storyline is adapted to the big screen or not.

In addition to this casting, Comic Book Therapy believes they have the first idea of what Paul’s outfit will look like:

It has a helmet akin to the Iron Man armor, but it’s designed more like a face than a smooth Stark helmet. The iconic yellow and green are present in the design, but it’s more metallic shades than bright ‘comic book colors.’ They said it reminds them somewhat of the T-1000 from Terminator 2 but it’s not as shiny. The yellow metal “liquid” bits seem to light up. This may or may not happen since there are two designs for that section. One lights up the other doesn’t. That’s the only difference. The cape is present, but they say it appears to only “pop out” when in flight mode. The cape sports some similar shades of yellow as the body. The “neck pieces” are the same yellow but they seem to shift positions from “standing” (for lack of a better word) to “flight mode.”

If this is true, this confirms the ability of him to fly as well as him having the cape which is a good thing.

So, tell us, what are your thoughts on this casting?  I, for one, love it!  Let us know what you think below.
