THE GREY and END OF WATCH return to theaters as Oscar hopefuls

This is the time of year when studios are releasing a lot of “Oscar bait” films, hoping these titles being fresh in the minds of critics and voters will give them an edge… and quite often that is sound logic. Open Road Films has decided to re-release a few of their more notable movies of 2012, in hopes that they might be considered for Academy Award nominations. Both THE GREY and END OF WATCH will receive limited re-releases in select theaters. END OF WATCH is said to be returning Nationwide, though we imagine that will still be somewhat limited, and the timing is good as the Blu-ray hits January 22, 2013. As for THE GREY, it’s just getting a brief encore in L.A., but hopefully its enough to get the attention of the right people. The film opened in January, so has sadly been forgotten by many – not that it should be. Director Joe Carnahan Tweeted about it as well:

I really enjoyed THE GREY, though I can understand how some people wouldn’t take to it. Joe Carnahan knows how to craft interesting films, and I do feel like this was one of the more overlooked gems of the year. Hopefully folks will give it a second look. One thing is certain, Liam Neeson is phenomenal in it.

And here’s my interview with Michael Peña and Natalie Martinez for END OF WATCH, followed by the trailer for the film:
