The very first trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION is here. Now you know….and knowing is half the battle. Ok, so I couldn’t resist that one. Dwayne Johnson, AKA, The Rock, AKA, Roadblock in the new G.I. Joe movie has unleashed the very first trailer for sequel via YouTube user Machinima. With a brief introduction from the new star of the movie, we get right into the fun and excitement. Out of the director’s chair is Stephen Sommers (THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY 2) and in is Jon M. Chu (STEP UP 3D and JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER). With a history that seems centered around dance movies and concert films, a big-budget summer action flick seems like a large departure for the director, but the trailer gives us the impression that he has a good eye for choreography, be it dancing or fighting.
What’s interesting is that this movie will take place after the events of the first movie with [Spoiler Alert] Cobra secretly in control of the White House due to Zartan taking the place of the President thru some unique Nano-Technology plastic surgery and precise acting, but the masterminds behind the first movie’s plans, Cobra Commander (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Destro (Christopher Eccleston), do not appear to be in the movie. It will be quite interesting to see if they explain their absence (they were, after all, in a very high-tech prison at the end of the last movie) or even the absence of the rest of the Joe’s (Scarlett, Ripcord, Heavy Duty, etc.) that were in the first movie but not in this one. [End Spoiler]
So, without any further delay, check out the new trailer and be sure to look for a redesigned Snake Eyes (I mean, c’mon, really? Lips on the rubber mask? I for one am extremely glad those are gone now). Let us know what you think in the comments below.
