While I thought 2010’s PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF (based on Rick Riordan’s books) was an okay attempt at a new HARRY POTTER-esque franchise, I seemed to think it didn’t do very well at the box office. On a budget os $95 million, it only grossed $88.7 million in the U.S., though brought in a worldwide gross of $226.5 million. Apparently Fox was happy enough with it to produce a sequel, three years later, but a sequel nonetheless. Most of the original cast is back, including star Logan Lerman, and co-stars Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, and Jake Abel. We lose Chris Columbus as director, along with Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, and some of the other notables from the first film… but we’re gaining Nathan Fillion, Stanley Tucci, Missi Pyle and Anthony Head. After seeing the new trailer (below) I’m cautiously optimistic, as it looks like a fun family film at the least. When talking to Jake Abel during his recent press stop in Dallas for THE HOST, I asked him about it, and he seemed enthusiastic, so we’ll see. Directing chores this time are going to Thor Freudenthal (DIARY OF A WIMPY KID). Take a look at the teaser trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. The full cast includes Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Jake Abel, Douglas Smith, Mary Birdsong, Yvette Nicole Brown, Missi Pyle, Anthony Head, Paloma Kwiatkowski, Leven Rambin, Robert Maillet and Zoe Aggeliki.
