So apparently Geoff Boucher with the L.A. Times has the job I’ve always wanted. I think the first time I saw the guy was last year during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, during which he got to introduce the entire cast of THE AVENGERS, only after bringing out the individual casts of both THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. In case you weren’t aware, and had I know ahead of time I would have been there myself, last weekend the L.A. Times “Hero Complex” hosted a special 30th Anniversary screening of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – my favorite movie of all time… yes, it is. It was promoted that Steven Spielberg would be on hand for a special Q&A following the film, but the cherry on top came in the form of a surprise addition of Harrison Ford in the middle of the Q&A, hosted by the aforementioned Geoff Boucher. A few interesting notes came from the Q&A, such as Spielberg acknowledging that INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL burned a lot of bridges with fans, and Ford saying he’s only up for another film if they don’t send him to Mars. There was also a little discussion about how Ford has ONLY worked with Spielberg on Indy films, though Harrison was offered the role of Alan Grant in the first JURASSIC PARK movie.
In this first vid, Spielberg talks about how RAIDERS came about for him, and once again makes it sound like a fifth Indiana Jones movie isn’t out of the question.
And here’s a fun bit in which Harrison Ford is introduced to the Q&A, and claims it was HIS idea to shoot the arab swordsman in the famous scene.
Find more videos and recap reports from the screening at the HeroComplex website. And Geoff, if you ever get tired of what you do, PLEASE keep my name handy.
