The remake of FRIGHT NIGHT gets another trailer of sorts, or rather a sneak peek variation of the original teaser. This time we get a much more features look at David Tennant (DOCTOR WHO fans go nuts at the mere mention of his name) as Peter Vincent, who in this take is more like Criss Angel than a good old fashioned vampire killer. Colin Farrell seems like an appropriate enough actor to take the reins from Chris Sarandon, who was excellent as the smooth-talking next door neighbor bloodsucker in the original, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse looks interesting as the “Evil Ed Thompson” character. I love Anton Yelchin, and this should be a nice showcase leading man vehicle for the young actor to show of his chops. Imogen Poots and Toni Collette round out the cast under the direction of Craig Gillespie (LARS AND THE REAL GIRL and UNITED STATES OF TARA), with a script written by Marti Noxon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER series writer, also penned I AM NUMBER FOUR). The film is being pushed as a 3D movie, which may not be the smartest idea, as much of it looks to be done in a darkened setting, and 3D never looks good that way. However, the “R” rating at least promised no TWILIGHT-ish vampire action, and we’ll have to forgive them for injecting a joke at that franchise’s behalf in this latest preview. Note to filmmakers – TWILIGHT doesn’t need to be made fun of, it makes fun of itself just fine. Check out the newest look at the film below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all—he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—and everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he’s telling the truth, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.
FRIGHT NIGHT opens in August 19, 2011
