We’ve seen a lot of stuff over the past several months for the big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ GREEN LANTERN, which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role.  The first teaser trailer played things partly for laughs, but this new official trailer sticks to the serious side of the story, and shows off a lot more of the Green Lantern Corps characters than we’ve seen before.  We finally get to hear Michael Clarke Duncan’s voice on Kilowog, and get a heavier dose of Mark Strong as Sinestro.  There’s even some different shots of Blake Lively and more scenes of Peter Sarsgaard.  I’m willing to give GREEN LANTERN a chance, especially under the control of the very competent direction of Martin Campbell, and despite the internet rumors calling it “a disaster” and whatnot.  Looking at this new trailer, I see a lot of stuff that at the very least should appeal to kids, so even if adults don’t go for it, maybe the younger viewers will appreciate what’s there. I can also tell you that even as just a casual fan of the comic books, from the looks of this new video there’s a lot of stuff hardcore fans are really going to enjoy. Take a look for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

GREEN LANTERN shines its light in movie theaters June 17, 2011 (in 3D in select theaters)
