Seeing as how she was just in Dallas for the Sci-Fi Expo, and one of the nicest and most fan-friendly guests at the show, we’re very happy to report this news. Karen Gillan, former DOCTOR WHO star and soon to be seen in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, is coming back to television in a new role… a leading role at that. EW is reporting that Gillan has been cast in the new ABC pilot called SELFIE, which comes from SUBPURGATORY creator Emily Kapnek. Said to be inspired by MY FAIR LADY, the new series is a single-camera comedy in which Karen plays Eliza Dooley, a self-obsessed 20-something woman more concerned with “likes” than being liked.

In the pilot, a video of her very public and humiliating breakup goes viral and she enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image. The announcement of the casting comes on the heels of the release of the well-received first teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy, in which Gillan appears as blue-skinned alien Nebula.

Karen is well known for her lovable role of companion “Amy Pond” on DOCTOR WHO, and her return to TV is likely going to be a very welcome announcement among fans of her work. She will also soon be seen in the supernatural horror film OCULUS, in which she co-stars with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff. We’ll keep an eye on SELFIE and anything else Gillan has coming up. Are you excited to see Karen in a leading television role? Sound off in the comments.
