Earlier this week, the Alberta Film Ratings certified the first trailer for this summer’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film directed by James Gunn (SLITHER, SUPER). Not much until you realize that this is usually done within a week or two of the trailer being released. With no Superbowl spot for the film, we all knew that there was going to be a trailer soon. This film does not have a built in audience like CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER or any of the Avenger’s so marketing is going to vital to sell the general audience on the idea of a rag-tag group of space criminals that include a talking tree and anamorphic raccoon. Now, thanks to (of all places) Yahoo! Singapore, we have confirmation of when the first trailer is going to hit.

Yep, so next week, on February 18th, we will finally see the first official footage from Marvel’s first cosmic film. There is a lot riding on this one. Not only will the Guardians be introduced, but we will also get the Nova Corps (Marvel’s equivalent of the Green Lantern Corps from DC) and the door will be open for more cosmic fare like Adam Warlock, Quasar, The Inhumans and so many more. The marketing for this film needs to knock it out of the park. Too bad Marvel and their parent company Disney no nothing of how to properly market a film (he typed hoping all would get the heavy dose of sarcasm that was dripping down each letter of that sentence).
I’ll be honest. This is my most anticipated film this year and that is a lot considering we have seen nothing from the film (unless you happened to be at SDCC last year and saw the early, early footage that was released after only 2 weeks of shooting). To me, it is all about the prospect of what this movie could do to expand the MCU.
