ODD THOMAS poster and trailer – Anton Yelchin brings Dean R. Koontz’s book to life

The Dean R. Koontz books featuring Odd Thomas are making their jump to the big (and small) screen later this month. Starring Anton Yelchin in the title role, ODD THOMAS the movie is written and directed by Stephen Sommers, who brought us THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS… and followed those up with VAN HELSING and G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. Sommers hasn’t made a big screen movie since 2009, and has somewhat of a shaky reputation among moviegoers. Personally, I’ll always love the guy for the underrated DEEP RISING. Yelchin is an actor I’m surprised hasn’t become a bigger name, and proved he can play the leading man in the FRIGHT NIGHT remake. From my understanding, ODD THOMAS had a few production delays due to financial issues, but it’s finally getting a release on February 28. It co-stars Addison Timlin, Leonor Varela, Matthew Page, Casey Messer, Barney Lanning, Nico Tortorella, and Willem Dafoe. The trailer below has kind of a made-for-television vibe to it, but the end result may be quite different. Tell us what you think in the comments.

Small-town fry cook Odd Thomas (Anton Yelchin) is an ordinary guy with a paranormal secret: he sees dead people, everywhere. When a creepy stranger shows up with an entourage of ghostly bodices — predators who feed on pain and portend mass destruction — Odd knows that his town is in serious trouble. Teaming up with his sweetheart Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local sheriff (Willem Dafoe), Odd plunges into an epic battle of good versus evil to try to stop a disaster of apocalyptic proportions. Based on the best-selling thriller by Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas is a supernatural action thrill-ride from the acclaimed director of The Mummy and G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra.

ODD THOMAS hits theaters and on VOD February 28, 2014
