Home Video Release of the Week: NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY – enter to win a signed Blu-ray!

I remember seeing the original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET in theaters in 1984 with my dad… I was 10 years old at the time. It’s safe to say the experience had a major effect on me, and instantly made me a lifelong fan of Freddy Kruger. I was first in line for all the sequels, and have been lucky enough to interview (and even hang out with) Robert Englund a few times. When I heard about the new documentary NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY, I was immediately on board with the idea of pushing this on our readers.

Then I saw it, and man of man is it worth a look. It’s filled with extensive interviews with just about everyone you’d want to hear from, including Englund, Wes Craven, Renny Harlin, Chuck Russell and even Alice Cooper to name but a few. The one and only “Nancy” Heather Langenkamp narrates the piece beautifully, and the total running time of the content equals four hours! There’s plenty of bonus features, and one I particularly appreciated featured the artwork of movie poster artist Matthew Joseph Peak – the man who created the iconic theatrical imagery for these films. If you’re even a casual fan of the classic horror film series, this is a must-own and a welcome addition to your home video collection. RLJ Entertainment released it this week on January 21, and you can find it on DVD or Blu-ray. My only suggestion is make sure you have plenty of time to watch it all the way through, as you could kill the better part of a day plowing through this thing. Personally, I thought I’d spread the experience out over a few days, and found myself watching every last bit… and I’m glad I did.

To celebrate the new home video release (you can see all the special features and specs below) we’re hosting a special contest when you could win a copy of the new Blu-ray signed by Heather Langenkamp and Co-Directors Daniel Farrand and Andrew Kasch. Just send us an e-mail and tell us why A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is important to you… make those entries good and through, we want this to go to a deserving winner. Contest is open to U.S. residents only. Make sure to include your shipping address with your e-mail. Contest ends on February 11, 2014. One entry per household – all duplicate entries will be deleted. Get those entries in a good luck!
